Interested in a Career as a Sleep Technologist?

Develop your career in Sleep Medicine in just 2 weeks!

Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program (A-STEP) provides premier training and educational program to get you on your way to a career in sleep medicine working as a sleep technician in just 2 weeks.

Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program (A-STEP) is an alternative, fast-tracked education program that will help you obtain your goal of a career in the field of Sleep technology and becoming a certified or registered sleep technologist. Consisting of a combination of classroom education, hands-on training, and self-study at your own pace,

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) developed the Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program (A-STEP) to promote the standardization of sleep technologist education and training. The A-STEP sleep technologist program equips trainees with the knowledge and skills they need to excel in the profession of sleep technology.

Comprehensive Sleep Care Center has earned accreditation as an A-STEP Provider, meaning that our Introductory Sleep Technician Course has met the standards of accreditation designated by the AASM and accepted by the BRPT, the gold standard for sleep technologists. The accreditation process involved a detailed evaluation of our program, including educators, faculty, curriculum, resources, and assessment.

Our A-STEP Sleep School includes:

  • 2-week 80-hour course consisting of classroom and practical education on the role of a sleep technologist, history of sleep medicine, and hands-on experience to properly set up and perform various patient sleep studies. After this course, students will have the basic knowledge needed to begin working as a sleep trainee.
  • A proctored in-house exam

In addition, students will need to complete:

  • Online self-study modules -consisting of a series of interactive self-study learning videos ranging from 45-60 minutes in length followed by a brief set of post-test questions. After the modules, learners will have expanded their knowledge base and the responsibilities needed to perform, interpret, and score a sleep study.

As one of the first steps to achieving your goal of becoming a credentialed sleep technologist, A-STEP equips you with the education needed to meet the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) eligibility requirements to apply to take the Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) or the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) credentialing examinations

A Career as a Sleep Technologist can offer many benefits for individuals interested in healthcare, science, and in helping others improve their quality of life.  Here are some of the benefits of becoming a Sleep Technologist.

  1. Positive Impact on Patient’s Lives: Sleep technologists play a vital role in diagnosing sleep disorders, which are often associated with various health problems such as cardiovascular issues, obesity, diabetes, and mental health conditions.  Helping patients improve their sleep quality can have a profound impact on their overall health and quality of life.  Knowing that you’re making a difference in people’s well-being can be highly fulfilling.
  2. Technological Skills: As a sleep technologist, you will work with sophisticated monitoring equipment and software to record and analyze sleep data.  This provides an opportunity to develop technical skills that can be valuable in other healthcare and technology fields.
  3. High Demand: Sleep disorders are becoming more prevalent due to a variety of lifestyle factors.  As a result, there is a growing demand for sleep technologists who can assist in diagnosing and treating these disorders.
  4. Job Stability: With the increased awareness of the importance of sleep health, the need for skilled sleep technologist is likely to remain strong.
  5. Career Progression: With experience and further education, there is opportunity to move up the career ladder to roles such as lead sleep technologist, supervisor, or manager, and may even open the door to other opportunities such as medical sales, clinical specialist, or researcher.

Keep in mind that while there are many benefits to a career as a sleep technologist, there may also be challenges, such as working night shift and handling patients with various medical conditions.  It’s important that you do your research and assess whether it aligns with your interests, skills, and lifestyle preferences.
